Spring Upgrades Bring the Heat

Things are heating up this spring at Heartbeat Denver Working Men’s Program, with substantial facility upgrades bringing warmth to one and all, with hot breakfasts and hot showers!

Funded through a generous grant from the Kenneth King Foundation, HBD’s kitchen has been vastly improved with a state-of-the-art, ventless convection oven. In addition to dinner each day, Chef Bridges Baxter now dishes up restaurant-style breakfasts for our men (scrambled eggs, waffles, bacon & sausage, OJ, cranberry juice, the works!) served daily at 6am, paired with an inviting coffee bar, open 6-8am. Bridges notes the oven’s compact size belies its many perks; baking/steaming can happen simultaneously, and turbo fan technology cooks (and holds) food quickly and evenly.

Feedback from the men has been fantastic!

And the heat goes on! Pro Innovation Plumbing recently sent their A-team to HB Denver to transform the antiquated shower area, adding new valves and powerful shower heads — and they fixed the hot water! Instead of going cold halfway through, now our men can luxuriate in an energizing hot shower.

While on-site, the Pro Innovation crew also fixed the hot water for the kitchen; no more boiling water to wash dishes. What a relief …

HBD’s Director of Maintenance & Finance, Joe Osborne, reflects that Pro Innovation’s bid came in at half the price of the initial bid he received; owner Gerson Garcia “wanted to help out” — and he sure did.

Thanks to all who worked on these improvements — more to come!
