We are grateful for all the organizations that bring us food..
Food is essential to our program and because there are so many organizations that assist us in getting the food we need to feed our men, we are able to focus most our financial resources in other areas of our program
We Don’t Waste is a primary source of food for our daily hot meal. And we get their twice a week allotment of food thanks to Central Presbyterian Men’s club who pick up deliver a car load of food Monday’s and Friday’s.
The Lord’s Daily Bread provides a variety of protein deliveries every week.
Risen Christ Ministries provide regular food donations from their congregation and they also pick up donations from Safeway. They are also one of several churches that make sandwiches on a regular basis for the men.
DaVita Dialysis Center delivers a variety of food products on a regular basis that provides our kitchen staff additional items for snacks, deserts and side dishes.
Presbyterian Churches:
Throughout the year Engelwood, Broomfield, Grace, Montview, Welllshire and Central all provide meals, donations and support for feeding our men.
University Club of Denver and The Colorado Trust Foundation, who are our neighbors on Sherman Street, periodically bring us excellent food that is left over from events held at their facility.
Sandwiches
We have many partners who bring us sandwiches….some bring sandwiches every week, others periodically. Our men use the sandwiches for food away from the shelter. For breakfast on the way to work, for lunch at work, as they look for work or as a snack to get them through the day. It allows our men to save money and still have something to eat to keep them going strong.
Our Partners that provide Sandwiches are:
South Broadway Christian Church, Catholic Charities Soup Kitchen, Knights of Columbus and our Presbyterian Church Partners,
It’s difficult to estimate what all these donations add up to. Certainly it takes time and effort to coordinate and deliver all this food. The gas, wear and tear on cars and equipment …..it all adds up.
If I just estimate the value of the food we receive, it comes to around $80,000 a year. As much as that is, it is worth so much more to us and all the men we serve. To know that there are so many kind and generous people in our community who care about others. People they don’t know, but are aware they need help.
